I’m a novelist. I’ve been traditionally published and I also self-publish. I write mysteries and romance novels as well as plays and scripts. I’ve written seven novels to-date, and have two more coming out soon; a young adult novel, working title ‘Maya’, and a murder mystery, working title ‘The Lake.’
Writing a diary, as a little girl, was my way of coping with the myriad of strange things happening at that time. I know that this is the story of many writers. Growing up, inventing stories was an escape. As soon as I left home, I travelled the world and sought refuge in opposites; opposite parts of the world, opposite situations, opposite lives and lifestyles.
I made a living as a journalist, advertising copywriter and marketing communications writer, had two sons and wrote fiction at night after I had put them to bed.
Years ago, between being a mum, a freelance writer and an aspiring novelist, I also set up a small press, specialising in erotica. I produced four little books, published writers from around the world, read at literary festivals and was interviewed on radio.
Fast forward to 2012, and I entered my novel The Hidden – quite by fluke (I nearly didn’t enter the competition) – into the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. I won the award in the mystery/suspense category, and was offered an advance and a traditional publishing contract with Thomas & Mercer in the US. My novel earned back its advance within one month of being released, and was a consistent bestseller for many, many months. It was also highly acclaimed by Publisher’s Weekly, Booklist and the Historical Novels Review. I am so grateful for the experience and for the wonderful people I have met.
